9mm Ruger Gun - Ruger Security-9 Review: 9mm Pistol Col Ben reviews the great value Ruger Security-9 9mm pistol for under $300. Is it worth it? Is this gun accurate and reliable for self protection? Ben explores the pros and cons of these budget guns to help you decide if they're right for you. He uses his specific criteria, examines the features and characteristics of the gun, and gives his personal opinions and preferences. This can be a starting point for researching your budget options to save time and decide on the best weapon for you.

I have reviewed many 9mm pistols recently and last month posted my top 9mm pistols in 5 categories here. However, some have asked what about my list of recommended and reliable 9mm pistols under $300. can be trusted and perform self-protection work. So, I researched, shot and tested some basic "no extras" pistols and came up with my list of the best value 9mm pistols under $300. These "do not hurt the wallet" and offer basic functions with enough power to protect themselves. There are several 9mms under $300., but I want to recommend only those that I have no doubt about their accuracy, reliability and value based on my 10 criteria. Keep in mind that I am reviewing the VALUE of guns that can be purchased for less than $300 after purchase. I focus on what other instructors have told me, what I've learned from my research, and comments from military and law enforcement people I respect. However, of course, my budget list is very subjective and therefore your list will be biased by your experience, subjective opinion and criteria. One of my winners is the Ruger Security-9 and here is my review and field test.

Ruger's Security-9 pistol uses the same reliable "Safe Action" system as Ruger's successful LCP II with an accurate, short and smooth trigger. The Ruger Security-9 system uses an internal locking hammer instead of a striker bar, which helps make sliding the slide easier. This is a forward action, with the hammer only being a double action. For safety, the Ruger Security-9 has a trigger safety, a thumb safety and a (buried) hammer safety that prevents the gun from firing if the trigger is not pulled. It has a Browning type, twist-lock. This value rifle has features typically found in much more expensive rifles and doesn't feel "cheap". The hammer, like the striker of a percussion pistol, is partially retracted by the rearward movement of the slide. Pulling the trigger completes the hammer throw cycle to fire the gun. This results in a similar trigger feel with a short and precise set point when double barreled.

Below I will provide the dimensions, specs and features of the Ruger Security-9 so you can see how it compares to the more popular but more expensive Glock 19 in size and dimensions listed here. You can compare its features and ratings with my 21 concealed carry guns in my book Concealed Handguns and Accessories. You can add or subtract from my criteria to suit your needs and preferences. Thanks to Ruger for lending me this gun to test and evaluate. Please know that I am not on their payroll, was not paid by them for this article, and was not influenced to say some things about guns. I want to be honest and sincere with my opinions and ideas, because I see weapons to help people sincerely. Specifically, I want to know how accurate it is out of the box without modification? How heavy is the trigger pull? Is the trigger smooth and clear? What about the reset distance for the next shot? Is it reliable? What are some of its advantages, disadvantages and special features? Are there any issues or concerns that would prevent me from carrying this gun? What would I change about this gun? Is this a gun I recommend for concealed carry and home defense?

To determine how well the gun would cycle and handle various loads, I used high quality Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown JHP ammo in 115, 124 and 147 weights and some in 115 grain FMJ. And about 50-60 rounds of American Eagle 115 grain FMJ that I bought. I only fired about 200 rounds to evaluate this gun to determine that it is a solid and valuable concealed carry gun. I wanted to determine if it would do the job at 10 yards as a budget pistol without all the "whistles and bells". I have the information I need after the shoot. Below are my ratings for each of my ten criteria for Safety-9 for my stealth targets. I want to specifically test its reliability and accuracy. I put the gun through its paces and thoroughly checked it for damage, stoppage and performance with JHP and FMJ ammo. I would like to thank Sig Sauer for providing 150 rounds of Elite Performance assorted ammunition to test and evaluate the Safety-9.

The Ruger Security-9 in 9mm has excellent ergonomics. The slim handle feels good in my hands, my wife's and the other two master's hands. It is comfortable and has a low bore axis that helps reduce felt coils and prevents nozzle rotation. I was able to hold and control the gun well with the right grip texture. When I picked it up, my pinky didn't hang out under the 15 round magazine - no pinkie. The ergonomics of this rifle are excellent for a rifle of this value. And two, the 15-round metal magazine gives me extra rounds and peace of mind. The clawed leaves and rounded corners are perfect and just right for me. I can reach all the offices easily. The slide was effortless for me and my wife, and the sensation relief and mouth lift was very manageable. My wife also likes the ergonomics and shooting it.

One thing I don't like is the small size and stiffness of the manual
