Nov 14, 2011 At various industry shows, including SHOT Show and the 2011 NDIA Infantry Small Arms Systems Symposium, (DR) met the Ruger LCP .380 ACP and Ruger LC9 9mm (9mm Parabellum/9x19mm NATO) streamlined, lightweight semi-weights - automatic pistol, both designed specifically for concealed carry (CCW). The DR handles both guns, but we haven't had a chance to run them on the range yet, something we'd like to do. In particular, the LCP pistol seems to be a very popular pocket pistol/backup pistol with LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers) and civilian CCWs. It has a 6+1 ammo capacity and can be equipped with the LaserMax Centerfire Laser (model LCP-LM). There is also an NRA version of the LCP with a camo (camouflage) frame from Natural Gear (camouflage). It may be worth noting that the LCP suffered an early recall situation in May 2009 due to a small number of field reports indicating that the LCP with the "370" prefix (serial number 370-xxxxx) could discharge when dropped on a hard surface with a cycle in the chamber. These early LCP pistols were fitted with an upgraded hammer mechanism at no cost to their owners and were diamond marked on the flat side of the bore just behind and below the hammer. All LCP pistols prefixed with "371" or higher already have the upgraded hammer mechanism and are not affected. The Ruger LCP pistol competes with the Kel-Tec P3-AT and Smith & Wesson (S&W) Bodyguard 380 .380 pocket pistols in the commercial market. It will be interesting to see how all three guns stack up in a side-by-side range comparison. If you're coming from the "nothing less than 9mm" mindset, and the LCP just isn't a good enough gun for you, the Ruger LC9 might be just the ticket. It is slightly larger and almost twice the size of the LCP, but it is also stronger. and is stronger and carries another round (7+1). Assuming the LC9 is reliable, accurate and durable and has a good trigger, it should make a good concealed carry gun, but we don't know of it being a pocket gun like the LCP.
